CDN TM15t Design TM15 Extra Large Big Digit Timer
List Price: |
DescriptionA quick glance at this digital timer, even from across the room, lets you know how much cooking time is left. The extra big digit model means you'll never need to grab a pair of glasses to keep tabs on time, plus the oversized buttons to set, start and stop time are simple to use, too. It counts up or down, works as a stopwatch, has a long and loud alarm and last count recall. Set for up to 100 minutes. For mounting, it easily clips or sticks via magnet, or use the handy stand. AAA battery included. No more burned cakes from a timer that couldn't be heard in the next room. This model not only has an extra-loud alarm but extra-big digits, so you can read it from afar. Easy to use, the timer simply has a start/stop button and two buttons for minutes and seconds. The timer counts either up or down, so it can be used as a stopwatch, with 100 minutes as the max. From a countdown mode, once the timer hits zero it begins counting up, so you know how much time has elapsed just in case you do miss the ring. The go-anywhere timer has a magnet for sticking to the refrigerator, a clip for a pocket or apron, and a stand for setting on the counter. One AAA battery required for operation is included. --Ann Bieri Features

Bambi (Two-Disc Diamond Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging)
List Price: |
DescriptionGet the Best in High Definition for your HDTV with Blu-ray Movies! Now Bambi, Walt Disney's beloved coming-of-age story involving Bambi, the wide-eyed fawn, his playful pal Thumper, the loveable skunk Flower and wise Friend Owl, will thrill a new generation of fans with its breathtakingly beautiful animation, soaring music and memorable characters. Plus, this special Diamond Edition includes an all-new immersive game and special features that reveal the extraordinary creative process behind the making of this timeless classic and take you deeper into Bambi's world than ever before! Rated G.•Packaged in Blu-ray case It always comes up when people are comparing their most traumatic movie experiences: "the death of Bambi's mother," a recollection that can bring a shudder to even the most jaded filmgoer. That primal separation (which is no less stunning for happening off-screen) is the centerpiece of Bambi, Walt Disney's 1942 animated classic, but it is by no means the only bold stroke in the film. In its swift but somehow leisurely 69 minutes, Bambi covers a year in the life of a young deer. But in a bigger way, it measures the life cycle itself, from birth to adulthood, from childhood's freedom to grown-up responsibility. All of this is rendered in cheeky, fleet-footed style--the movie doesn't lecture, or make you feel you're being fed something that's good for you. The animation is miraculous, a lush forest in which nature is a constantly unfolding miracle (even in a spectacular fire, or those dark moments when "man was in the forest"). There are probably easier animals to draw than a young deer, and the Disney animators set themselves a challenge with Bambi's wobbly glide across an ice-covered lake, his spindly legs akimbo; but the sequence is effortless and charming. If Bambi himself is just a bit dull--such is the fate of an Everydeer--his rabbit sidekick Thumper and a skunk named Flower more than make up for it. Many of the early Disney features have their share of lyrical moments and universal truths, but Bambi is so simple, so pure, it's almost transparent. You might borrow a phrase from Thumper and say it's downright twitterpated. --Robert Horton Features

Beauty and the Beast (Five Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy)
List Price: |
DescriptionStudio: Buena Vista Home Video Release Date: 10/04/2011 Rating: G The film that officially signaled Disney's animation renaissance (following The Little Mermaid) and the only animated feature to receive a Best Picture Oscar nomination, Beauty and the Beast remains the yardstick by which all other animated films should be measured. It relates the story of Belle, a bookworm with a dotty inventor for a father; when he inadvertently offends the Beast (a prince whose heart is too hard to love anyone besides himself), Belle boldly takes her father's place, imprisoned in the Beast's gloomy mansion. Naturally, Belle teaches the Beast to love. What makes this such a dazzler, besides the amazingly accomplished animation and the winning coterie of supporting characters (the Beast's mansion is overrun by quipping, dancing household items) is the array of beautiful and hilarious songs by composer Alan Menken and the late, lamented lyricist Howard Ashman. (The title song won the 1991 Best Song Oscar, and Menken's score scored a trophy as well.) The downright funniest song is "Gaston," a lout's paean to himself (including the immortal line, "I use antlers in all of my de-co-ra-ting"). "Be Our Guest" is transformed into an inspired Busby Berkeley homage. Since Ashman's passing, animated musicals haven't quite reached the same exhilarating level of wit, sophistication, and pure joy. --David Kronke --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. |

Dumbo (Two-Disc 70th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack in Blu-ray Packaging)
List Price: |
DescriptionA magical Walt Disney tale about the shy circus elephant whose big, floppy ears make him the target of ridicule among the other elephants. Dumbo gets lessons in self confidence from his rodent best friend, Timothy Q. Mouse, leading him to the revelation that his ears are actually a wonderful gift that will allow him to fly. Songs include "Pink Elephants on Parade" and "Baby Mine." 64 min. Standard; Soundtracks: English DTS HD 7.1 Master Audio, Dolby Digital stereo, Spanish Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix 5.1, French Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix 5.1; Subtitles: English (SDH), Spanish, French; audio commentary; "making of" documentary; featurettes; deleted scene; deleted song; art gallery; trivia; game; bonus shorts "The Flying Mouse" (1934), "Elmer Elephant" (1936). Also includes a DVD version of the film. Two-disc set. A Disney "classic" that actually is a classic, Dumbo should be part of your video collection whether or not you have children. The storytelling was never as lean as in Dumbo, the songs rarely as haunting (or just plain weird), the characters rarely so well defined. The film pits the "cold, cruel, heartless" world that can't accept abnormality against a plucky, and mute, hero. Jumbo Jr. (Dumbo is a mean-spirited nickname) is ostracized from the circus pack shortly after his delivery by the stork because of his big ears. His mother sticks up for him and is shackled. He's jeered by children (an insightful scene has one boy poking fun at Dumbo's ears, even though the youngster's ears are also ungainly), used by the circus folk, and demoted to appearing with the clowns. Only the decent Timothy Q. Mouse looks out for the little guy. Concerns about the un-PC "Jim Crow" crows, who mock Dumbo with the wonderful "When I See an Elephant Fly," should be moderated by remembering that the crows are the only social group in the film who act kindly to the little outcast. If you don't mist up during the "Baby Mine" scene, you may be legally pronounced dead. --Keith Simanton |
